(Sarajevo, February 25, 2020) – Some thirty students of the Primary School "Drežnica“ visited the reconstructed Cantonal Court in Mostar within the project "Building an Effective and Citizen- friendly Judiciary“, funded by the European Union and implemented by the High Judical and Prosecutorial Council of BiH.

The visit was organised in order to introduce students to the work of judges, prosecutors, expert associates and other professionals, as well as to enable them to experience what it is like to work in such an institution.

During the visit, the court representatives explained the students the composition and the jurisdiction of the Cantonal Court in Mostar and outlined the roles of all participants in court proceedings. During the simulation of a trial, students were able to take the role of a judge, prosecutor, lawyer, witness or the injured party, which contributed to better understanding of the roles of participants in court proceedings.

„It is of particular importance to educate the young people about judiciary work in order to build trust in the work of judicial institutions and to make them feel that they live in a safe and secure environment where they can build their future. In achieving this goal, it was our special pleasure to host the students of the Primary School "Drežnica“, to communicate with them and to show them how the court works”, said Jasmina Rajković, President of the Cantonal Court in Mostar.

During the visit, the students were given also a booklet "Why is justice important″, to acquaint them with all the professions in the court proceedings, and enable them transfer the acquired knowledge to their peers at school.

The reconstruction of the Cantonal Court in Mostar and the visit of students have been funded by the European Union, and during 2020 as part of the project, aditional visits of primary schools to courts across BiH were planned.
